Abstract
Performance of diversity receivers over various slow and fading channels is analyzed. The classical PDF based approach has been followed to derive the performance measures of three basic diversity combiners namely Selection combining (SC), Equal gain combining (EGC) and Maximal ratio combining (MRC) receiver over Hoyt, n-D and k-D fading channels. The analysis is carried out for both independent and correlated fading channels for various coherent and noncoherent modulation schemes. For independent diversity receivers the analysis has been carried out for arbitrary number of input branches. The effect of diversity order and fading parameters on performance measures is studied with the help of the numerical evaluation of the obtained expressions. For dual correlated receivers the analysis is carried out for arbitrary correlation, whereas for L diversity receivers it is for two most important practical correlation models, equal and exponential correlation. An equal correlation is observed in diversity reception by an array of three antennas placed on an equilateral triangle or by closely placed antennas (other than linear arrays) [1]. Exponential correlation is used to model the system when the receiving antennas are placed in a linear array [1, 2]. The effect of correlation on the receiver performance is studied for all the systems. To validate the derived expressions Monte carlo simulation is performed and also the obtained expressions are compared with the special case results available in the literature. For the expressions with in infinite series the convergence is observed and where ever possible expressions for upper bound on truncation error have been provided.....
