Abstract

Biodegradable bioplastics like Polylactic Acid (PLA) have the potential to replace conventional petroleum-based plastics due to their enhanced tendency to degradation. However, they require a specific composting environment for their degradation. For the commercial viability of these bioplastics, they need to be incorporated into the circular economy by ensuring their economic and environmental sustainability. Compost is already a user-ready material for the agricultural sector; hence, using it for bioplastic degradation is not recommended. Thus, an alternative matrix that is efficient for PLA degradation is an absolute need of the hour.
