Abstract
The contents of this thesis have been divided into six chapters based on the results of experimental works performed during the complete course of the research period. The introductory chapter of the thesis presents an overview of different aspects of hypervalent iodine chemistry and the use of organic tribromides in the synthesis of various heterocycles. Chapter (II) describes the oxidation of aldoximes to N-acetoxy or N-hydroxy amides using two hypervalent iodine(III) reagents viz. (diacetoxyiodo)benzene (DIB) and KoserDs reagent [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene (HTIB). Chapter (III) demonstrates the oxidative N-acylation of 1,3-disubstituted thioureas to N-acylureas using (diacetoxyiodo)benzene (DIB). Chapter (IV) illustrates synthesis of isothiocyanate and cyanamide through desulfurization of dithiocarbamic acid salt with hypervalent iodine(III) reagent. Chapter (V) and (VI) mainly focuses on the synthesis of various heterocycles using hypervalent iodine(III) reagents and ditribromide reagent 1,1'-(ethane-1,2-diyl)dipyridinium bistribromide (EDPBT). Each chapter constitutes of four sub sections, describing introduction, present work, experimental work and spectral data respectively......
