Item Narratives of the Naxalbari Movement: A Study of Selected Literary Work(2022) Hussain, HalimLiterary as well as non-literary writings on the first phase of the Naxalite movement help locate many facets of this powerful resistance to the political and social establishment. The fictional and non-fictional representations of the Naxalite movement of the 1960s and 1970s in West Bengal highlight key issues which reveal the factors leading to the rise and fall of the movement. These writings are testimonies to the long-standing exploitation and ruthless suppression undergone by tribal communities and the rural poor in India. Literary representations of the Naxal movement also bring to light its ideological underpinnings as well as the conflict within its leadership arising out of caste and class differences.
