Chapter:1 presents a background of the field as well as the theme of the research works carried out in the thesis vis-à-vis the latest development in the area. In Chapter:2 a new method for generation of Au NPs in the p H range of 2.9 through 11.2 by the reduction of HAuCl4 using H2O2 as the reducing agent would be reported. The study is based on an earlier observation from the laboratory that under acidic p H H2O2 could reduce HAuCl4. This was further extended to obtain a general method of analysis in a wider pH range. Although at first thought the observations is against conventional wisdom of H2O2 being a poor reducing agent they can be explained using standard electrochemical potentials involved with the reaction.en_US
