C-H Functionalization/Annulation of Arenes and Atroposelective Allylation of 1-Arylisoquinoline N-Oxides

Abstract

This thesis reports the development of weak-chelation assisted C–H functionalization/annulation and allylation strategies that enable site-selective transformations. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter presents a Rh-catalyzed cascade C-H activation/annulation strategy of sulfoxonium ylides with vinyl cyclopropanes (VCPs) to access cyclopropane fused α-tetralones. The second chapter explores a Co-catalyzed C-H allylation of sulfoxonium ylides with 3-membered vinyl strained rings. The third chapter demonstrates a Ru-catalyzed coupling of N-chlorobenzamides with unsymmetrical alkynes in water. The fourth chapter focuses on a Pd-catalyzed atroposelective allylation of 1-arylisoquinoline N-oxides with trans-3-alkenoates, enabling the simultaneous construction of axial and central chirality.
