The thesis entitled “Design and Development of Heteroatom Embedded Organic Luminogens and Modulating Their Condensed State Properties for Diverse Applications” is comprised of five chapters as summarised below. Chapter 1 Describes the history of lumiphores and their evolution toward the new vistas of condensed state emission after the discovery of luminogens in 2001. Thereafter it explains the requirements of new luminogens considering the potential in real-world application. However, it also includes the importance of heteroatoms to regulate condensed state phenomena, several challenges along with their versatile applications. Chapter 2 Demonstrates a ""light-up"" colorimetric and fluorometric strategy for the detection and discrimination of volatile chlorinated solvents (VCS) utilizing BN embedded polycyclic probe, synthesized through a one-step catalyst-free procedure. Along with that, a dual-phase encrypted ink has been established to provide additional data protection. Chapter 3 Unveils the development of planar luminogens by replacing typical C=C with an isoelectronic B-N group. The developed boron and analogous carbon congeners via anchoring aromatic and aliphatic cores elucidate the effect of each functionality to trigger the condensed state properties. Furthermore, one of the boron congeners displayed excellent fluorometric antibiotic detection using a prototype platform. Chapter 4 Reveals a series of B-N embedded probes where donor and functional groups were altered strategically to understand the role of electronic distribution on the condensed state properties. However, the impact of those D/A functional groups on the morphological change and variation in the intermolecular interaction was thoroughly discussed leading to an application of the regulation in cellular internalization. Chapter 5 Demonstrates two pairs of red emissive positional isomers which reveal how the structural configuration (flexibility and rigidity) of a system modulates the emissive behaviour in their aggregate state. Along with that, environmental sensitivity and the low ΔEST values offered excellent application of rewritable encrypted ink and for phototheranoastic killing of cancer cells respectively.
